Mac Pro EFI firmware 1.3 -- who needs it

Update requirement confusion.

CNET staff

Apple quietly released Mac Pro EFI firmware update 1.3 last week, reportedly resolving some wake-from-sleep issues that have plagued these systems. There has been some confusion over which machines need this update and the prerequisites for installation. Installation of the firmware update requires:

  • an Early 2008 Mac Pro
  • Mac OS X 10.5.2
  • Leopard Graphics Update 1.0

If you have all three aforementioned attributes and don't see the firmware release in Software Update, you can download it here.

After installing the update, your firmware version string will be: MP31.006C.B05. You can check this string by launching Apple System Profiler (located in /Applications/Utilities) and looking "Boot ROM Version" in the primary "Hardware" pane.
