As expected, Apple officially released Mac OS X Public Beta today. From a press release: Users can purchase Mac OS X Public Beta on Apple’s Online Store for $29.95." [Note: You may have trouble accessing the Store until the initial surge to place orders begins to fade.] Apple states: "Systems compatible with Mac OS X Public Beta include the following: iMac, iBook, all Power Macintosh G3 desktops, Power Mac G4, Power Mac G4 Cube and PowerBooks introduced after September 1998. You'll also need to check two things. First, you may need a memory upgrade —128MB of Memory (RAM) is recommended for using the Public Beta. Second, make sure that you've upgraded to Mac OS 9.04 now." Apple's Mac OS X site has been updated with new information about the Beta version. Of particular note: Apple has posted a page with initial instructions on how to get started installing and using Mac OS X Public Beta.
