Pre-ordered copies not arriving on time Before the shipment of Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), Apple stated that users who pre-ordered the product in time would receive it on April 29th.

We've now received reports from a number of readers who indicate that shipment has been inexplicably pushed back to May 2nd.

MacFixIt reader Brian writes:

"It appears I will not be receiving my copy of Tiger today. Apple stated that delivery would be on the release date when I bought it at the Apple Store the first day it was available. The FedEx tracking shows it wasn't shipped until last night at 6:30 ET and will not arrive until May 2. This is a bit of a disappointment."

Benjamin Schollnick adds:

"I ordered Tiger the same day that it was available for pre-order... I will receive my copy on May 2nd.

"That is according to FedEx. I called Apple yesterday to confirm that I should receive it today, and was reassured that it would not be a issue."

Tiger-compatible version of DiskWarrior (3.0.3) announced Alsoft has announced DiskWarrior 3.0.3 which supports Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). The new release also supports Tiger's new Access Control Lists (ACL) and extended file attributes. It has improved journaling support and enhanced RAID support, including the new concatenated RAID volumes.

The new release will be available in the first week of May, and will be a free update for current owners. Once released, customers should download the update from and use it to create and burn a new DiskWarrior CD containing the updated application. In order to create a new DiskWarrior CD, a user must have an administrator name and password, the original DiskWarrior 3.0.x CD, 650 MB of free disk space, and a blank CD-R disc.

Apple Remote Desktop 2.2 released for Tiger Our initial coverage of Tiger issues included mention of an issue with Apple Remote Desktop where the program refuses to launch under Mac OS X 10.4.

Apple has now released Remote Desktop 2.2, which packs Tiger compatibility:

MacFixIt reader Dave notes a minor quirk with installation of the new version that is easily resolved with a restart.

Dave writes:

"No indication of a required restart is provided yet once the update was installed I only saw a black screen when I attempted to control remote machines. A simple restart resolved the problem."

Font issues Several readers have reported issues with fonts and font management utilities after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

The most common issue is distortion of type displayed on screen, particularly in Safari and Mail.app. When the issue manifests, characters begin to overlap, and often cannot be seen clearly below a certain font size.

MacFixIt reader TJ reports an issue with Extensis Suitcase, as well as a possible solution.

TJ writes:

"I dad huge issues with Suitcase after installing Tiger. Issue: Adobe products would not recognize typefaces installed with suitcase. I did an 'upgrade' install. Would get multiple 'warnings' regarding 'font ID' conflicts. Fonts would show up in 'text reader' but not in Photoshop for example. Indesign would act very erratically.

"The solution was to search and delete all Suitcase files on your computer (especially those in your system 9 folder if you still have it). Reinstall Suitcase from scratch. Install your typefaces without using the 'check for corrupt fonts' option.

"Restart, then go to suitcase and check for corrupt fonts and enjoy Tiger, Suitcase and Adobe applications working in harmony again."

Support for Spotlight, Automator to be added to FileMaker Pro FileMaker Inc. today announced that FileMaker Pro 7 users will experience immediate compatibility with Apple's new Mac OS X Tiger. FileMaker also plans to support the Dashboard and Automator, two leading new features within the new operating system.

Hermstedt DSL adapter compatibility MacFixIt reader Robert Crooke reports a compatibility problem with Hermstedt device drivers under Mac OS X 10.4. Hermstedt manufactures ADSL Ethernet modems and network routers.

Robert writes:

"Please do not do what i did last night which was to upgrade to 10.4 and then find i have no internet connection. When i phoned Hermstedt in Germany today they informed me that new drivers are required but they do not know when they will be available."
