Mac OS X 10.4.9 (#9): Quicken 2007: Backup to .Mac issues; Fix for Nikon Capture NX issues; HP printer problems; more

Quicken 2007: Backup to .Mac issues MacFixIt reader Barbara Passman reports issues backing up Quicken data to her .Mac account after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.9. We previously noted a possibly related issue where Quicken backups to .Mac significantly tax system resources.

Barbara writes:

"I have consistently used the .mac backup feature in Quicken. Used it three weeks ago with Quicken 2006 Mac. Tonight, after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.9, did a bank account download successfully in Quicken. went to back up, using the .mac feature. Tried three times. Always same error message Can not do... check if I have sufficient free space ( i have one Gig free space on .mac) and check if have adequate permissions to write to .mac ( I do... just uploaded a Quick time movie this week.. no problem using my.mac). I installed Quicken 2007... same problem."

Fix for Nikon Capture NX issues We previously reported an issue where the NIkon Capture NX application does not function properly under Mac OS X 10.4.9, with stalls occurring when attempting to open photos and other issues.

It now appears that the problem can be fixed by removing a problematic ColorSync profile, specifically those from ColorByte's ImagePrint application. If you are experiencing this problem, navigate to the following directory:

Library/ColorSync/Profiles

and remove any profiles from ColorByte ImagePrint, or other third-party profiles that could be causing problems.

MacFixIt reader Dan Foster had success with this fix:

"To be clear, this is NOT where the ImagePrint installer places these profiles, but is a result of my having copied the profiles to these locations to make them available for soft-proofing in Adobe Photoshop. Although this practice caused no difficulties with any version of OS-X prior to 10.4.9, it definitely causes issues in either the Intel or PowerPC versions of 10.4.9. I will notify ColorByte and/or Apple by email and hope they come up with a fix."

RadioShark issues (cont.) Users continue to report issues with Griffin's RadioShark after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.9.

MacFixIt reader K Malloy writes;

"I can confirm a problem with Griffin's radioSHARK and Mac OS X 10.4.9. I have a radioSHARK on my G4 iMac, and after installing 10.4.9, if I change the station, the radioSHARK window shows that the station has changed but the new station doesn't tune in. The Griffin website indicates that this problem has only occurred after performing the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo update. They are asking anyone who performed the incremental update (Mac OS X 10.4.8 to 10.4.9) to contact them. FYI, I applied the Combo Update instead of just letting Software Update do its thing."

HP printer issues As noted in our initial coverage of Mac OS X 10.4.9, several HP printer files are modified as part of the update. As such, it is not surprising that users are experiencing problems with some Hewlett-Packard devices after the update.

One reader writes:

"My HP PhotoSmart 8450 printer no longer prints double sided. Pages come out single sided with alternates flipped upside down, but useable after sorting."
