System volume much louder Some users have reported that the volume scale is much louder after applying the Mac OS X 10.4.9 update. In other words, the same volume setting represents a much higher actual volume.

This might be considered an enhancement, but some users are reporting that even the lowest volume setting is too loud for some purposes after the update.

Persistent booting into Windows A Wired Blog posting details a situation where some Intel-based Macs continuously boot into Windows (via Boot Camp) after the Mac OS X 10.4.9 update.

In the blog posting, Steve Gilbertson writes:

"Yesterday evening, while getting ready to post a few things to Monkey Bites, Apple?s Software Update program popped up to remind me that OS X 10.4.9 was available. [...] When I came back I noticed my Macbook had booted into Windows Vista rather than OS X. Frustrated, but not alarmed, I rebooted, held down the option key and noticed that the OS X drive was already selected. I hit return and the Macbook promptly booted into Vista again. Not Good."

Steve's solution was as follows:

  1. Startup his Mac from the original Mac OS X installation media (DVD) by inserting it into the optical drive and holding down the "C" key
  2. Select your language
  3. '
  4. Select the Startup Disk preferences from "Installer" menu
  5. Select the Mac OS X partition
  6. Restart

Third-party devices

AirClick: Griffin acknowledges issues We previously reported on issues with Griffin's AirClick on systems running Mac OS X 10.4.9 that prevent proper communication with the device.

Griffin's technical support department has now acknowledged the issue, stating:

"We have noticed a growing number of issues the AirClick is having with 10.4.9 . We are taking steps to create a fix for this, however, at this moment, there are none. Check out the AirClick support page every couple of days to see if a fix or update has been posted."

Griffin RadioShark Meanwhile, some users are reporting issues with another Griffin product, the RadioShark. MacFixIt reader Geoff Roynon writes:

"I'm having a problem with the Griffin RadioShark after installing 10.4.9. It works OK until I try to select a different station - the station info changes on the RadioShark window but the new station doesn't tune in, instead it keeps playing the previous station. Have to quit and restart the application to change stations."

TomTomGo Users continue to report issues with the TomTomGo under Mac SO X 10.4.9.

MacFixIt reader John writes:

"Since updating to Mac OS X 10.4.9 via Software Update, my TomTomGo 510 will not mount (although it thinks that it is mounted), nor is it recognized by the TomTom Home application.  Fortunately, before upgrading, I cloned OSX 10.4.8 to an external hard drive.  During the update I had followed all of the recommended procedures and have encountered no other issues."

MacFixIt reader Scott adds:

"Since installing the 10.4.9 update I have been unable to mount my Tomtom Go 910. I tried the latest update for Tomtom Home (build 106, March 15) and the 10.4.9 Combo updater. I cannot mount. I had no problems with Mac OS X 10.4.8"

Finally, Mike writes:

" I tried my TomTom Go 910 with my MacPro and can confirm the same problem. The Home application cannot see the unit and the internal hard disk does not mount on the desktop as it used to do. Running Disk Utility reveals that this application cannot see the hard disk either. Running Disk Warrior reveals that the disk is locked and DW can't operate on it. Running TomTom Home reveals that the unit cannot be seen by that app either. I tried deleting the Home application and reinstalling which prompted a download of the latest installer but to no avail."
