Mac OS X 10.4.7 Special Report: MacBook Pro screen failures with external display connected
In addition to an issue where the MacBook display shows vertical multi-colored lines instead of the intended image, several MacBook Pro owners are reporting an issue where the built-in display becomes garbled or non-functional when an external display is connected after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.7.
In most cases, after an external display is connected, both the MacBook Pro's built-in display and the external display function properly for several minutes, after which the built-in display begins to show faded colors or black and white stripes. The image on the external display remains normal.
This appears to be an issue with the video drivers included with Mac OS X 10.4.7, as the same issue does not manifest on the same afflicted systems when Mac OS x 10.4.6 is installed.
It appears that an update from Apple will be required to resolve this issue.
