Mac OS X 10.4.6 (#6): Fix for Sony-Ericsson K700i synchronization issues; Problems with streaming audio; more
Fix for Sony-Ericsson K700i synchronization issues We previously reported an issue where users of Sony-Ericsson K700i phones were unable to synchronize the devices using iSync after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.6.
For most users, the initial connection to the phone was made, and then almost immediately the following error message was displayed:"[K700i] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone."
MacFixIt reader Fabrizio La Rosa now offers a fix:
- Quit iSync if running
- Control-click on the iSync icon (located in /Applications), select "Show package contents" and navigate to the following folder: /PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/ PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/
- Open the file MetaClasses.plist with Property List Editor (available if you have Xcode installed) or with a text editor like TextEdit or BBEdit.
- Look for the dictionary containing the definitions of your cell phone; I have found mine under "com.sony-ericsson.K700"; once you find it, you will notice that its property "InheritsFrom" has the value "family.com.sony.ericsson.syncml-phones-2004-obexbug", but you have to set it to "family.com.sony-ericsson.irmc-old-phones" to revert its sync protocol to IRMC.
Fabrizio writes: "Doing so my K700i can sync again with my Mac. This fix also works for users with a S700 phone or any other model that doesn't support SyncML."
Problems with streaming audio Some users are reporting issues with various types of streaming audio after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.6.
MacFixIt reader L Lindholm writes:
"After updating to Mac OS X 10.4.6 on my Powerbook 15" I have a problem with streaming audio. After the update I no longer was able to listen to web radio through my usual dashboard widget which uses Windows Media Player/Flip4Mac. As a Macromedia/Adobe Flash developer I also noticed that I had a problem with streaming mp3 files in mp3-players made in Flash.
"However I can listen to streaming web radio through the VLC player and iTunes. I tried to re-install both Windows Media Player as the Flip4Mac plugin, but without success. I have not found any way to fix my streaming problems."
If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.
Possible solution for QuarkXpress printing issues We previously reported issues with printing from QuarkXpress 6.5 after the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update.
MacFixIt reader Lawrence reports that in his case, an errant Quark Xtenstion was the problem, and removing it allowed printing.
Lawrence writes:
"Once we upgraded to Mac OS X 10.4.6 we could no longer print from Quark (Quark simply quit each time). We found that the 'Blend Fixer 6 XT.xnt' was the cause, this is as a Postscript blend fixer supplied by Xinet. Xinet is aware of the problem."
