We've posted an article entitled "Giving Mac OS 9 the Boot" which contains opinion culled from hundreds of letters sent to MacFixIt from users opposing and embracing Apple's decision to deny OS 9 boot capabilities on all Macs shipped after Januar 1st, 2003. An exceprt:

"MacFixIt has received hundreds of sharply opinionated letters on the issue, and the consensus does not seem to point in a clear direction. Many users are so infuriated by the decision that they have vowed to never purchase another piece of Apple hardware, while an equally proportioned group is so enthused by Apple’s decision to “drop dead weight” that they are planning to employ significant measures to better embrace Mac OS X. Still another camp views the move as a necessary evil." More.

Connectix speaks on Virtual PC Paul Derby received the following response from Connectix in response to an inquiry about Jagaur compatibility:

"Many thanks to all who have posted additional information regarding VPC 5.0.4 and Jaguar. Not all of the bugs reported have been reproducible in-house. We are busy working directly with individual posters and Apple to gather and analyze the data and reach a resolution as quickly as possible."

Derby notes some of the problems he and other users have been experiencing under Jaguar:

"Besides the sound problems causing excessive disk and CPU activity and flooding the system log, there also seems to be problems running with dual CPU Macs constantly spiking the second CPU. Some report falling back to VPC 5.0 allows them to run, a small number of people report that fixing permissions helps VPC performance."

PowerPoint text rendering We've received additional reports of text rendering quirks in PowerPoint after upgrading to Jaguar. Brian Shepard writes:

"Since upgrading to Jaguar, when I use animated text (fly in, drop down, etc.) in PowerPoint X there is now a blocky black background behind the text while it is moving. Once the text stops moving, the black background goes away. I never had this problem in OS 10.1.5 or earlier, just since updating to 10.2."
