PowerBook G3 Pismo Testing After our initial reports, Larry O'Conner from Other World Computing has done extensive testing and reports the following:

"Our own in house Pismo has 768MBs of memory, including a 512MB OWC module that was installed about a year ago.

"We successfully installed and are now using Apple OS 10.2 Jaguar on this machine. The presence of our 512MB module did not cause any problem.

"We also did an additional test adding one of our currently shipping 512MB SO-DIMMs and left the 1GB installed and attempted to re-install 10.2... Again, absolutely no problems once so ever.

"Perhaps there is something with 10.2 that does a more extensive memory check and if the module isn't up to par, it causes the problem. That would be similar to the Firmware update Apple released in March of 2001 that caused modules to not be seen on AGP PowerMacs models if they were not up to proper spec.

"Bottom line for OWC customers is that there is no problem with the PowerBook G3 FireWire (Pismo) and our 512MB SO-DIMM modules with 10.2 Jaguar."

WaveLAN PCMCIA card Mark Vaillancourt reports problems with his wireless access card:

"Mac OS X 10.2 breaks the open source WaveLAN driver I was using up until 10.1.5 with my Lucent Silver WaveLAN card in my USB Powerbook G3. I tried reinstalling with no luck. The card shows up in the new PC card menu item and is also in the networking control panel, I just can't configure or use it."
