Remote Desktop Update Apple has released Remote Desktop 1.1, which includes compatibility with Jaguar. Previosuly users were presented with the error message: "The Remote Desktop software doesn't appear to be installed correctly. Please verify it is installed and restart this computer."

The update is available via Mac OS X's Software Update component.

Security Update Security Update 8-23-2002, exclusively for Jaguar, has been posted to Apple's servers. The update includes revisions to OpenSSL, Security, and SunRPC.

Photoshop 7.0.1 and Epson scanners Brett Wickens reports a problem with the recently released Photoshop 7.0.1 update under Jaguar:

"Selecting the Epson scanner enabler plug-in (the very latest beta – will it ever be golden?) under Photoshop 7.01/OS X 10.2 causes my Photoshop to crash – or to be more precise, quit without any warning or error, as if it was never open."

Font Reserve Update Coming Phillip Terry reports receiving the following message from DiamondSoft regarding compatibility of Font Reserve with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar):

"Just to let you know, we expect to release an update to Font Reserve single user (3.1) sometime next week. The current version will not work with 10.2, so you will need the update. It'll be free at our web site and current users will be notified by email when it's available. The server version will also need to be updated for Jaguar, but that probably won't be released until sometime in September. It's not just a compatibility update, but will add several new features, like support for OpenType and a few bug fixes."

Yellow HP output Greg Marchand reports a problem with several Hewlett Packard printer models constantly producing yellow backgrounds under Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar):

"Under Jaguar, when you print to a Color LaserJet 4550 you will have a Yellow (Ivory) background behind all Text and Graphics images. We have several brands of HP LaserJet's ranging in all types and configurations; inkjets, LaserJet's all with NIC cards. In OS 9 or Mac OS X 10.1 or below there is not a problem. We are able to reproduce this problem over and over again with several machines running Jaguar. We spent time with Apple and HP on this issues and each were not able to resolve it. Regretfully, both were pointing fingers at each other."

UPDATE:Gary Robinson writes that obtaining a new firmware version from the printer manufacturer may be the only solution to the "Yellow Haze" problem.

"I had the same problem with OS 10.1 and an HP 4500. Apple seemed disinterested in the problem, but after several calls HP acknowledged the problem and sent a firmware upgrade for the printer which solved the problem. HP calls the color 'yellow haze.'"
