Mac OS 8.5 universal install leads to crashes?

If you ever choose to do a "universal install" (so that your System Folder will boot any Mac model), you might run into a problem. Manny Veloso started getting frequent system crashes on his desktop Mac after doing this. He finally isolated the cause as the "Mac OS ROM" System Folder file, needed only by iMacs. After deleting this, the crashes vanished.
