.Mac iDisk and file corruption

CNET staff

Several users on .Mac's paid-access-only discussion boards are reporting data corruption issues when uploading text documents, images, and other files to their iDisk.

One poster, who also e-mailed MacFixIt, accurately describes the problem:

"I have been having the following problem for months. When I access my iDisk via my 17" iMac and attempt to upload files, at least four out of five attempts end with the file being corrupt on the iDisk. If the file contains text, some of the text becomes gibberish; if the file is a JPEG image, it is unviewable or displays very oddly (large swashes of random color and static). This machine is running Mac OS X 10.2.4."

After investigating the issue further, we have found that most users experiencing this problem have no problem copying files via other WebDAV protocol services and tools. Users have also attempted replacing Ethernet hardware and cables to no avail.

Readers who have spoken with Apple's technical support department report being asked to inquire with their Internet service providers.
