MacFixIt reader Rick Z. writes to let us in on a tip he used to get rid of a console message he noticed when waking his MacMini from sleep - network traffic reduction measures in effect.

Rick Z. writes:

"I recently noticed that after awakening from sleep, my Mini would usually show console messages of the form:
6/23/09 10:14:46 AM mDNSResponder[22] Note: Frequent transitions forinterface en0 (192.168.0.2); network traffic reduction measures in effect
This happened even though I use an Ethernet cable to my DSL modem, and do not use Airport at all, although my modem does have wi-fi supporting my DVR."
Blogger Geoff Arnold suggests:
"This is probably a symptom of an Airport driver which is cycling the interface up and down inappropriately. I?ve also had /usr/lib/airportd crash with a SIGSEGV."

Possible solutions
MacFixIt reader Rick Z. seems to have found a solution that works for him:

"This proved to be due to Airport settings. I was able to kill this issue by going to the Airport Utility / Preferences, and un-checking the setting "Monitor Apple Wireless Devices for Problems". Issue solved."

As always, MacFixIt reminds you to create a stable backup before attempting to delete files on the system level, install software updates, or perform any other troubleshooting steps that could result in your system settings or data being deleted.
