Haute horologist Romain Jerome has expanded its DNA collection with a timepiece incorporating fragments of Back to the Future's time-travelling car.

Romain Jerome's DNA watches incorporate fragments of famous events — such as the Moon DNA, Eyjafjallajökull DNA and Titanic DNA watches.

The collection has just expanded, with a chronograph made from steel incorporating fragments of the time-travelling DeLorean's body.

The bezel and case are made from brushed steel and an engraved satin-brushed rhodium dial, with the small seconds dial at 9 o'clock suggesting the DeLorean's tail light — subtle, yes, but when you turn it over, there's an engraved image of the DeLorean, gull-wing doors proudly raised, and the limited-edition number.

It's a bit sportier than the pieces we're used to seeing from Romain Jerome, but the hands are instantly recognisable as the manufacture's iconic design, and it features Romain Jerome's famous X symbol on the face, limned in black.

Under the hood, you'll find a Swiss self-winding mechanical movement with a 42-hour power reserve and small seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour sub-dials. It's held on a strap of upholstered black leather.

Limited to 81 pieces (because the DeLorean launched in 1981), each watch is going for a cool US$15,900.
