LPR printing on a Mac HP has a Web page on how to set up and configure an LPR printer on a Mac. G4 Cube random sleep bug: more theories Apple Support Discussions has an interesting thread as to the possible causes of the G4 Cube random sleep bug (you may need to be a registered user to see the thread). Of particular note is a message by "o hemi" who believes he fixed the problem by opening up the G4 and adjusting the shield on the back of the power switch. [See also previous MacFixIt coverage.] (Thanks, Danny Bull.) clipEdit 2.1 slow down and crash: one more follow-up Following up on our previous report of a memory leak in clipEdit 2.1, Wade Cosgrove (lead programmer of clipEdit) writes: "I've figured out what's causing the slowdowns. ClipEdit is trying to read in all system fonts. If you have a large number, clipEdit simply can't check them fast enough, and your system pauses. A work-around is thus to deactivate some of your fonts. Otherwise, what happens is that clipEdit delays your system every few seconds while it's the frontmost application. After a period of this, when you try to quit clipEdit, it will crash with a Type 3 error. While we work on a fixed version, we have made clipEdit 2.0.4 once again available; this version does not have this bug. Optical mouse "freeze" fix When using our new Apple optical mouse directly on our desktop, we occasionally find that the cursor on the screen stops responding to mouse movements. When this happens, if we briefly place the mouse on the mousepad still on our desk and move it a bit, this brings the mouse "back to life." OrangeMicro PCI Bridge Patch Brendan Molloy notes that "PCI Bridge Patch 1.0 "patches the PRAM in Power Mac 5500, 6500 and 20th Anniversary Macintoshes to allow OrangeMicro's OrangeLink USB/FireLink FireWire Card to function in these systems. This Patch addresses a problem previously covered here on MacFixIt. However, Brendon adds: "This patch does, indeed, make the card work. Unfortunately my 5500/275 (with TV card and modem) now freezes solid after a few minutes work. Even a clean install of the System does not fix this problem."
