Logitech MX Revolution: Kernel panics on connect/disconnect, fixing

CNET staff

Some users have reported kernel panics that occur when connecting or disconnecting the Logitech MX Revolution mouse. In many cases, this issue can be resolved by downgrading the Logitech Control Center driver software for the mouse from version 2.1.2 to version 2.1.1.

Version 2.1.1 of the software -- though hard to find -- is available on the Logitech Web site via this link. In order to downgrade, simply run the Logitech Control Center 2.1.1 installer.

MacFixIt reader Pam Sargood writes:

"After installing my Logitech MX Revolution mouse (lcc.2.1.2) I found that disconnecting the micro-receiver caused a kernel panic. This happened on both my 24" Intel Core 2 Duo iMac and my MacBook. It made no difference which USB port was used. Going through the forums on the Logitech site I found that many problems with the MX  had been resolved by downgrading the lcc software to 2.1.1. I tried this and the receiver now disconnects normally.

"I can find nothing on the Logitech site suggesting that there are any bugs in lcc 2.1.2,  and no link provided to the previous version, which in my case was an immediate fix."
