Locating older Mac OS install discs
A number of readers with older Macs and slow dial-up connections are looking for an easy, cheap method to obtain older versions of the Mac OS installation CDs - Mac OS 8.1, Mac OS 8.5, and Mac OS 9 in particular.
Several people are selling Mac OS 8.5 (with 8.6 upgrader) discs - generally the most difficult to obtain - on eBay, but prices generally range above US $35 for the retail copy.
Local Apple repair shops or Apple Stores may also have expendable copies of the software in stock.
UPDATE: Web outlet found While certainly not inexpensive, this Yahoo! Store offers virtually every Mac OS installation CD scaling all the way back to Mac OS 7.5. Prices on full OS CDs range from US$ 40 to US$ 180.
