Live coverage of Palm press conference

LAS VEGAS--After introducing the showstopper at last year's show, Palm is back again making new device announcements at CES 2010, including revamped versions of the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi. Read along with CNET's live blog for the full scoop.

10:54 a.m. Seated and waiting for the press conference to start. Not as big or packed as last year's event. Just got a 5-minute warning.

11:00 a.m. Palm Chairman Jon Rubinstein is on stage. Talking about all the various awards Palm has won over the year, including Best of Show last year.

11:05 a.m. Rubinstein: We worked very hard on WebOS and it's proved to be everything we imagined and more. It has allowed us to reach a broad community. We've had over 85,000 SDK downloads in 108 countries.

11:07 a.m. Palm cares about keeping you connected and making sure you never miss a thing. Palm Pre is a great example of that experience.

11:08 a.m. Palm Pre is now available in seven countries worldwide. Now playing a video of the Pre around the world.

11:09 a.m. Today, we're going to announce a new European partner: France. Partnering with SFR. Jean-Marc Tasseto, Senior EVP Consumer for SFR takes the stage.

11:10 a.m Tassetto: We have 25 million mobile customers. First to introduce 3G technology to the French market. Currently, 10 million of our customers have smartphones. Our mission is to provide customers with the best smartphones of the world.

11:13 a.m. Tassetto: Why did we choose Palm? 70 percent of our customers know Palm. There is a positive buzz around the brand. We share the same philosophy: it's all about the customer experience, making it as simple and as exciting as possible.

11:15 a.m. Rubinstein back on stage. Now introducing Katie Mitic, SVP of product marketing for Palm.

11:16 a.m. Mitic: Formally opening our developer program. Any developer is now free to submit their WebOS apps.

11:17 a.m. Over the last 3 months, we've increased number of apps 10 times, which should increase even more with the open developer program.

11:18 a.m. Taking a completely new approach to application distribution. We're opening up our database of application descriptions to all our developers and the entire Web community.

11:20 a.m. Hot apps bonus program: incentive program best-selling apps. Also announcing the Palm WebOS plug-in development kit (PDK). Developers can now create plug-ins for WebOS.

11:23 a.m. PDK will launch in March. Talking about 3D gaming now. New game titles starting today, taking advantage of PDK. Some titles include EA's Need for Speed, Scrabble, Sudoku.

11:24 a.m. Travis Boatman, Vice President of Worldwide Studios, takes the stage, talking about the Palm and EA Mobile partnership.

11:25 a.m. Now doing a live demo of Sims 3 on the Palm Pre. Looks pretty slick and running smoothly.

11:26 a.m. Next demo is Need for Speed, a car racing game. Running in real-time in 3D. Using the accelerometer to maneuver the car. I'm impressed. Very little lag and graphics look good.

11:28 a.m Mitic is now inviting Paul Cousineau, director of product marketing for Palm. Cousineau: Announcing video recording.

11:30 a.m. Doing a live demo of video recording. You can also edit video. Timeline of video frames. You can drag the handles to shorten the video.

11:31 a.m. You can upload videos to YouTube, Facebook, e-mail, or MMS with a simple tap. This feature will be available to all WebOS customers with a software update coming in February.

11:32 a.m. Cousineau is now showing how you can play games and multitask. He's playing SIMS and a text message notification comes in, along the bottom of the screen. Using the Deck of Card feature, he goes to reply to the text message and goes back to the SIMS game, exactly at the point he left off.

11:34 a.m. Showing Flash 10 on the Web browser with support for the plug in. "Avatar" movie trailer is now playing within the browser. Pre customers can download a beta of the Flash plug-in from the app catalog soon.

11:35 a.m. Summarizing the new software features: 3D gaming, video recording, Flash plug in for Web browser.

11:40 a.m. Rubinstein is back on stage. Announcing two new products. The Palm Pre Plus. Removed the navigation button. Double the internal memory. 16GB Flash memory. Comes with an inductive battery cover, so it's Touchstone ready right out of the box.

11:41 a.m. Second product is Palm Pixi Plus. Built-in Wi-Fi. Introducing more choices for back covers. Five different colors: green, blue, black, orange, and pink.

11:42 a.m. Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus will be available exclusively from Verizon Wireless. Crowd is very pleased with this.

11:43 a.m. Also introducing Palm Mobile Hotspot, exclusive to these two new devices. Turns Pre or Pixi into mobile hot spot.

11:44 a.m. Devices will be available from Verizon on January 25.

11:45 a.m. Not announcing pricing today, but will reveal information closer to launch date.
