LinkedIn, one of the world's largest professional networking sites, is now on the BlackBerry OS, bringing the site's database of 60 million users worldwide to the pockets of business professionals the world over.

From the home screen of the LinkedIn app, you can update your status, search users by name or organisation, and send "InMail" messages or invite to connect with any user via the LinkedIn message server.

But the app goes beyond merely updating lists of status reports and delivering messages from other users, and integrates with a few key core services in the BlackBerry OS, namely the calendar and the address book. When installed, users have the option to update their list of contacts on the BlackBerry with details and images of their connected list on their LinkedIn account. Where the user already has an address book entry for a member, the app will merge the details of both. New calendar entries that list attendees to a meeting are also connected to the service, allowing users to search the invitees on LinkedIn and giving them the chance to read about these people before meeting them.

Membership to LinkedIn and the BlackBerry app are both free, with the app available to owners of BlackBerry devices running OS version 4.3 or higher. The download is available online via linkedin.com/blackberry. iPhone users can also download a LinkedIn app through the Apple App Store.
