LG Ultra HD TV wins pre-CES innovation award

The Consumer Electronics Association has announced the winners of the 2012 Innovation Awards in the run up to CES 2013, including LG's Ultra HD 3D TV.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has announced the winners of the 2012 Innovation Awards in the run up to the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including LG's Ultra HD 3D TV.

With CES 2013 just around the corner, the CEA has kicked off the proceedings with the Best of Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Award winners at a CES preview event in New York.

"The CES Innovations Award highlights the robust innovation within the CE industry. Adding two new categories to the awards allows for more cutting-edge technologies to enter and be discovered," said Karen Chupka, CEA senior vice president, events and conferences, in a prepared statement. "This year's honourees have creative products with impressive design and engineering expertise. We look forward to seeing all these products at the 2013 international CES."

LG's Ultra-High-Definition Cinema 3D smart TV (84LM9600) was named the honouree for the category of video displays, one of the 29 awards given out across a large range of categories.

Some of the other honourees included:

  • Digital Imaging: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 full-frame compact camera

  • Gaming Hardware and Accessories: Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E.7 professional gaming keyboard

  • Home Appliances: Belkin WeMo baby monitor

  • Headphones: Sennheiser IE800 in-ear canal headphones

  • Home Audio/Video Components: Harman/Kardon BDS 577 Blu-ray player/receiver.
