LG Optimus L9 injects dual-core power into laggy L-Series
A new flagship blower for LG's budget range of 'droids is being lined up, packing a dual-core chip and Android Ice Cream Sandwich.
LG, the perennially upbeat Korean mobile maker that's convinced Life's Good, is lining up a new flagship phone for its budget range of Android blowers, tech blog Engadget reports.
The Optimus L9 will join fellow odd-numbered L-Series phones, the L7, L5 and L3, in the quest to lift cash from your wallet.
Like the L7 and L5, the L9 is set to run the newest-but-one flavour of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), and will pair a dual-core 1GHz processor with a large 4.7-inch display.
Considering how sluggish I found the L7 -- which pairs ICS with a single core 1GHz chip and a 4.3-inch screen -- dual-core power would be a welcome addition to the L-Series. The range has failed to find glory thus far. Of the L-Series phones CNET UK has reviewed to date, the highest score achieved was a mere 2.5 stars, while the budget L3 managed only a paltry 1.5 stars.
Also reportedly on board the forthcoming L-Series flagship L9 device is 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera and an impressively potent sounding 2,150mAh battery.
The gizmo blog also reckons the new phone will ship with software tweaks including a redesigned keyboard and a language translation app known as QTranslator capable of translating from 44 different languages into 64 native languages.
The new keyboard software will apparently allow you to adjust the position of individual letters to make one-handed typing easier. You will also get a separate layout for landscape keyboards.
I contacted LG to confirm the L9's existence, but was told by a spokeswoman that the company has no information to share at present. Price and availability are also unknown at this time -- although judging by the October date displayed on the image above an autumn launch could be on the cards.
