LG has sold 10m LTE phones worldwide
That's up from 5 million in the summer, and LG is hoping to double it again by the end of the year.
4G is still only available from one network on these shores, but that hasn't stopped LG from flogging a fair few 4G phones. The Korean company has sold 10 million LTE handsets, it's announced, up from 5 million in October.
It wants to double the number to 20 million by the end of the year, too. With Vodafone, Three and O2 all set to roll out their 4G networks in the next few months, expect to see more LTE mobiles around than ever before.
"Having established ourselves as a major industry player, we will continue to expand our footprint in the global LTE market with a wider range of differentiated, high-quality LTE smart phones," Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Mobile Communications Company, said in a statement.
Which mobiles would these be then? LG has already given us a glimpse of the Optimus F7 and F5 -- both are budget 4G blowers that run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The F7 has a 4.7-inch screen, and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor inside. The F5 plays second fiddle, with a 4.3-inch display and a 1.2GHz dual-core chip. Neither are confirmed for Blighty just yet, though they will hit Europe between April and June. Fingers crossed, as we could do with some decent 4G mobiles that don't cost the earth.
4G launched in the UK at the tail end of last year, but EE is still the only network offering it. Ofcom has flogged the spectrum to other operators, so we should see them launch their own services in the next few months. This should mean cheaper prices for us all, as EE's have cost an arm and a leg so far. Three has already said it won't charge any extra for 4G.
