The LG G2 will be unveiled in New York on 7 August. Could it beat the next iPhone to be first phone with a fingerprint scanner?

Last week LG confirmed the name of the G2 -- and that it will be LG's Android flagship -- but we'll have to wait another two weeks to find out the full details.

The G2 now has a dedicated website promises "a phone inspired by you", with a cloud of phone-related wishes supposedly from customers. One asks for a smart phone battery that lasts a week -- good luck with that.

The teaser images do show the back of the screen, with volume controls unusually placed on the rear of the phone, of all places. The teaser also shows what could be a touch-sensitive area, or a fingerprint scanner. With the next iPhone heavily rumoured to be sporting a fingerprint scanner, could LG be about to beat Apple to the punch?

According to the teaser video, you have up to 50,000 thoughts every day. Today's thoughts include "Why does a phone need a fingerprint scanner?" and "My word, that's pretentious."

There's just over two weeks to go until the New York launch. CNET will be there as always, bringing you the first news, previews, photos and video of the new G2.
