Leaked images show a fancier Fitbit watch
The previously delayed high-end wearable has a retro look and aims to compete with the next Apple Watch.
Apple may have a next-gen Apple Watch ready for the fall, but rival Fitbit hopes to get out ahead with a new, upscale device that could arrive slightly earlier.
A series of leaked images, first appearing on the Yahoo Finance website, purport to show a new gold-colored device that looks like an updated version of the current Fitbit Blaze. The design is still blocky, with sharp edges and big, squared off buttons on the side, which at least makes for a different look than the rounded corners of the Apple Watch series. You can see the leaked images here.
Our CNET review said the current Blaze model from Fitbit was "clunky," and knocked it for not being water-resistant. This new version is said to have a GPS chip, heart rate monitor, and touchless payment features, but may or may not be waterproof. The watch, code-named "Higgs," will cost around $300, according to the Yahoo report.
Another set of leaked images show a pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones, similar to Apple's BeatsX headphones, offering some premium features, at a mid-range price.
Fitbit said it doesn't comment on rumors or speculation.
"We know there is a lot of interest in our entry into the smartwatch category. We don't have news to share at this time," said a representative for the company.
