Launcher -192 error confirmed; a work-around prevents it

Previously, we covered the problem of Type 192 errors associated with the Launcher control panel, especially in Mac OS 8.5. Larry Kahan noted a posting by Apple's John Phelps on the Apple Discussion Boards, that confirms the problem and describes a work-around. John writes:
We have figured out what is generating the -192 error in the Launcher - including the symptom of the Launcher opening with a very tall window. Something is writing to the Launcher and corrupting it shortly after the install. This is why a fresh install will clear up the symptoms for a short time.

The fix - lock the Launcher control panel via the Information window immediately after installing a fresh copy. The checkbox is in the lower left corner of the General Information window. You probably should trash the Launcher Preferences as well, but that may not be necessary.
