LaCie's 500 GB drive LaCie is gearing up to ship a 500 GB (half-terabyte) drive, according to Forbes article. "The company says that space is sufficient to store up to two days worth of uncompressed digital video, which should be enough for anyone. And it comes in a small, convenient package. The drive weighs about 5 pounds, and is 10.6 inches long by 6.7 inches wide by 1.7 inches deep." More.

IBM to debut thinner transistor ZDNN reports that IBM will announce the new transistor at the International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) in San Francisco this week 1,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair. "IBM's new transistor, which is 10 times smaller than today's state-of-the-art transistors, proves that working transistors can continue to be made using current chip technology, or similar techniques, for 10 years or more into the future, IBM researchers said." Dell's PDA is "so-so" A Washington Post article entitled "Dude, You're Getting a So-So Handheld," takes a look at Dell's new PDA. "All this, alas, is a little chunky to carry in a jeans pocket -- 7.2 ounces, 5 inches long, 31/4 inches wide and three-quarters of an inch thick. This size problem gets much worse if you use Dell's SUV of a carrying case, a thick, padded shroud that prohibits toting the Axim anywhere but in a purse or briefcase. Then there's the Pocket PC 2002 software, which has defects that Dell can't work its way around." More.
