LaCie, the hardware vendor that has been known to turn storage devices trendy, has just done it again. The company announced today that it has collaborated with Porsche Design Group to introduce two exclusive Porsche-inspired external storage devices: the Porsche Design Mobile (P'9220) and Porsche Design Desktop (P'9230) hard drives.

The company says these two new drives support the fast USB 3.0 standard. While USB 3.0 is definitely fast, it would have been more appropriate if the drives supported Thunderbolt , which has a ceiling speed of 10Gbps, twice that of USB.

To make up for this, the two drives have aluminum frame casings that LaCie says are "elegant by appearance" while protecting "the vast functionality of the hard drive inside." According to the company, the casing is made of durable and scratch-resistant aluminum, with each frame being built with precision and also designed to regulate heat, keeping the internal hard drive cool.

Both drives come with software, which helps prepare them for use with either a PC or a Mac. They also include backup software and password protection to keep the data secure. The drives come with 10GB of Wuala secure online storage .

The LaCie Porsche Design Mobile Hard Drive (P'9220) comes in 500GB and 1TB capacities. Additionally, a 750GB model will be available exclusively in the worldwide Porsche Design Stores. The LaCie Porsche Design Desktop Hard Drive (P'9230) comes in 1TB and 2TB capacities.

Both drives are available now; pricing starts from $105.
