The upcoming Steve Jobs film starring Ashton Kutcher has filled out its cast with a handful of new actors to portray Apple's early years.
Casting for the upcoming Steve Jobs film starring Ashton Kutcher continues to fill out.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, the film has snagged actors J.K. Simmons and Kevin Dunn, the latter of whom recently played the father of Shia LaBeouf's character in Michael Bay's "Transformers" series. Simmons has been tapped for the role of venture capitalist Arthur Rock, with Dunn playing Gil Amelio, who was briefly Apple's CEO ahead of Jobs' return.
Other additions include actors Elden Henson, Giles Matthey, Lenny Jacobson and Victor Rasuk. Of that bunch, Henson will play early Mac team member Andy Hertzfeld. Matthey will be Sir Jonathan Ive, Apple's current SVP of industrial design. Jacobson will be early Mac team member Burrell Smith, and Rasuk will play Bill Fernandez, who was Apple's first employee in 1977.
That group joins Matthew Modine, who last month was named as former Apple CEO John Sculley. Actor Josh Gad, who will play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, and "The Help" star Ahna O'Reilly playing Chris-Ann Brennan, Jobs' girlfriend, and the mother of his daughter Lisa.
The movie, titled "jOBS," was announced in May and stars Ashton Kutcher as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The film will cover the years 1971 through 2000. That bit of Jobs' history includes the founding of Apple, as well as his ouster, the forming of NeXT and Pixar, then the return to the company when Apple acquired NeXT.
The project is not to be confused with a separate feature film, currently in development by Sony Pictures. In May, Sony said it had signed on "The Social Network" and "The West Wing" writer Aaron Sorkin to pen that screenplay. The company had already secured the rights to Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography "Steve Jobs." In an interview last month, Sorkin noted that said the writing effort was still very much in progress.
Principal photography on "jOBS" began last month in the Jobs family's original house. Photos from the production have since leaked outof Kutcher, Gad and others in costume.
