Koenigsegg CCX: Swedish craziness lands in Australia

Sydney Motor Show 2008 It's ballistic, mental and the most exciting thing out of Sweden since Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid. The Koenigsegg CCX is now available in Australia for a lazy AU$2.1 million.

If you've ever thought of cars and Sweden in the same thought, then we'd wager that the words bloody, driver and Volvo featured in there prominently. So it seems a bit weird that a country famed for giving us cars that implored us to keep our hats on would give a car to rival the established makes from Italy, England and Germany. Dig a little deeper though, past the ABBA ditties and spa flicks, and you'll find a land whose people have to suffer an eternal night before they can spend the summer partying and dining on fermented herring, salted liquorice and quaffing down "burn wine".

With that in mind, it makes more sense they'd come up with a 1,280kg supercar powered by an indigenous 4.7-litre twin-supercharged V8 pumping out a crazy 601kW of power and 920Nm of torque. Depending on who you listen to, the car will race from 0-100km/h in either 2.9 or 3.2 seconds. Now the super-weathly in Australia can try to keep this Swedish beast under the highway limit with the local importer having completed certification. The cars come out of the factory in right-hand drive and can be specified to suit the owner's whims, although if you can't wait nine months for your car to be built, you can always buy the orange car seen here in Sydney for a cool AU$2.1 million.
