Keyspan serial port adapter: what's new in the newer model

CNET staff
Mark Farmer asked Keyspan the following question: "How is the new clear/white iMac-looking Serial Port Adapter different than the first generation model?" They replied:

"The newer adapter (part # USA28x) is different from the older adapter (part # USA28) in the following ways:

  • the USA28x has a different PC board design than the USA28
  • the USA28x has chips that give the adapter support for external clocking (which allows more devices to be supported and allows for the faster port speed). The USA28 does not have these chips."

Keyspan does not offer any upgrade path from the old (discontinued) to the new model, other than simply buying the new one.
