Keynote 3.0.1 (#3): Problems with presentations created in Keynote 2

CNET staff

Some users have reported problems opening presentations created in Keynote version 2.x under version 3.0.x of the software. In some cases, the files become un-open-able under Keynote 2.x as well after the user attempts to save the file with Keynote 3.0.x.

One reader experiencing the problem writes:

"I had problem with keynote 3 causing a corrupt file. I had a Keynote 2 presentation which ran perfectly in Keynote 2 and 3 before saving it as a Keynote 3 file.  File would then not open in either Keynote 3 or 2."

In some cases, the solution to this issue is to duplicate of the Keynote 2.0 file and remove all slides with custom drawn shapes.

A reader who enacted this workaround writes:

"I then opened the new file and the original side by side in keynote 3 and added the custom shape slides back to the new file one at a time and kept saving the new file in keynote 3 until I came upon the one slide that was causing the problem.  I changed that one slide by taking all the motion out of it and added it back to the new file and no further problems occurred."
