Kernel Panic on boot: blank CD responsible

Kernel Panic on boot: blank CD responsible

CNET staff
A reader found that a blank CD caused Mac OS X to panic during boot. He writes: "I bought OS X today and installed it on my G4/400 on a slave 10 GB drive. It installed great, but after switched back to my primary drive running OS 9.1 I couldn't get it to boot back into X - it crashed soon after the chime with a kernel panic. It even refused to boot from the OS X install CD. The solution: I have an external SCSI burner hooked up to an Adaptec 2903 card. While burning CDRs in OS 9.1, I left a blank CDR in the burner. When booting into X, the drive lights flashed and then X had a kernel panic. I removed the blank CDR from the drive and all was well."
