A federal judge on Monday largely tossed out a lawsuit brought on behalf of California municipalities alleging Microsoft overcharged for Windows and other software.

The court ruled that the four-year statute of limitations barred most of the claims, but did grant leave for the government agencies to amend their suit to include purchases made in the last four years. City and other governmental class actions were excluded from a class action settlement with consumers and businesses over purchases of Windows and other programs.
