Being Log Lady: John Malkovich morphs into David Lynch characters
In the short film "Psychogenic Fugue," actor Malkovich manages to make Lynch's characters even weirder than they already are.
Watching actor John Malkovich is a treat, especially when he's playing eccentric characters. But Malkovich may have outdone himself in this unusual tribute to director David Lynch.
In the short film "Psychogenic Fugue" -- from a collaborative meditation on the work of David Lynch called "Playing Lynch" -- Malkovich does his best impressions of Lynch himself, as well as seven of Lynch's most iconic characters from the films "Eraserhead," "The Elephant Man," "Blue Velvet" and "Lost Highway," and the TV series "Twin Peaks."
The film features the music of David Lynch as performed by artists like The Flaming Lips and Angelo Badalamenti. The film was made to raise funds for the David Lynch Foundation, which helps to "bring Transcendental Meditation into the lives of those who could use it most."
A $10 (£8, AU$13) donation gives fans access to the full 20-minute director's cut of "Psychogenic Fugue." A $25 (£19, AU$33) donation gets the film plus an uncompressed digital download of "The Music of David Lynch," a live recording of the 2015 David Lynch tribute concert featuring Duran Duran, Moby, Jim James, Sky Ferreira and others.
Those who donate $25 will also receive a collector's pack of limited-edition photo prints of Malkovich dressed as Lynch, as well as the characters John Merrick, Henry Spencer, Lady in the Radiator, Mystery Man, Frank Booth, Dale Cooper and the Log Lady.
Just watching the brief segment of Malkovich playing Agent Dale Cooper in a scene taken directly from the original "Twin Peaks" makes me wish he were cast in the new Showtime series debuting in 2017.
