Java applet eats up memory

CNET staff
Here's a weird one. Go to the web page for the Sentinel-Record. Now go to the Finder and select About This Computer. Watch the memory allocation for your web browser (I was using Netscape Navigator). It will keep increasing right before your eyes! I watched it go from 9Mb to 14Mb, before I stopped it by closing the page. Bill Clemons, who alerted me to this, adds that this is due to the Java applet fprotate, used on the page. The system memory that is lost will not be regained until you quit your web browser.
