Jabber gets IETF recognition
Jabber announced on Friday that the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), an Internet standards body, has approved its Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) as a "proposed standard."
The designation marks the latest step in Jabber's attempt to make XMPP the industry's standard protocol for instant messaging communications. However, the Denver-based software company has a long way to go before XMPP is officially recognized as a standard. It must go through further review to achieve "draft" status before becoming a "final" standard.
