Apple has updated it's document viewing and sharing Web site, iwork.com (currently in beta), to include an iPad- and iPhone-friendly mobile site and extra sharing features to enhance compatibility with the iWork suite for iPad.

Apple's new sharing features on iwork.com include creating custom links to your files stored there. Users familiar with MobileMe's iDisk online application will see a similarity with the file-sharing feature included there. Users can now download documents from the "shared" page and track the number of views their documents have had.

The enhanced interface is exactly what you'd expect from Apple: clean and easy to use with the iPhone OS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch). After a simple sign-in page, you will see all your documents and get access to sharing and other features.

The changes may seem minor right now, but it is good to see that Apple is progressing on this front. Look for continued improvements to the iwork.com site over time, perhaps even adding the ability to edit or notate documents directly on the site. I would imagine that the success of iwork.com will be closely tied with the success of the iPad. Let's hope both do well and mobile document management gets a little more Apple.
