iWeb 1.1 (#4): Apple address commenting, publishing issues in Knowledge Base documents

Apple has addressed a few issues with iWeb 1.1 -- previously covered here on MacFixIt -- in a series of Knowledge Base articles.

We noted some issues with comment appearance, and now Apple has posted a document (#303780) stating that, in some cases, that blog comment counts won't appear on the summary page if the number of excerpts shown is equal to ten. Apple says this can happen in iWeb 1.1 if you enable comments on a blog that was originally created using iWeb 1.0 or 1.0.1.

The solution for this issue, as divulged by Apple, is to select the Blog and Podcast Inspector, then enter a number other than 10 in the "Number of excerpts to show" field.

Another new Knowledge Base document addressing errors when attempting to "Publish All to .Mac" is less helpful, stating only that users "may get an error indicating the attempt to Publish All to .Mac was not successful after updating to iWeb 1.1" but offering no solution.

Don't use apostrophes in iWeb file names We previously noted that some users are able to resolve various issues by removing apostrophes from the names of published pages.

Apple has now echoed this advice, stating:

"If you create a site or page name in iWeb 1.0.1 with an apostrophe as part of the name, and subsequently update to iWeb 1.1, then the web addresses (URLs) to your site/page will no longer be valid. This will break any existing bookmarks to the page. This occurs because iWeb 1.1 handles apostrophes differently than iWeb 1.0.1. People who bookmarked your iWeb 1.0.1 site need to bookmark your new site published with iWeb 1.1."
