iWeb 1.1 (#3): iComment issues; Formatting issues; Problems enlarging photos

iComment issues MacFixIt reader Richard Baker reports some issues with the utility iComment (which allows addition of commenting to iWeb sites -- a feature now built-in to iWeb 1.1) after publishing a site with iWeb 1.1.

Richard writes:

"I updated to iWeb 1.1 yesterday, and to try out the new comments feature, checked the comments box in the RSS inspector for one of my existing blog pages, then published. I rejected the advice to re-publish everything, as I wanted to compare the new comment type with iComment, which I have been using up to now. The entry was updated correctly, and I was able to enter comments (in Japanese as well as English, unlike iComment, which doesn't work for Japanese). I checked my other pages and found iComment had stopped working, but this was resolved by synchronizing iDisk and launching iComment again."

A new version of iComment, 4.0, has now been released. The new update boasts compatibility with iWeb 1.1, eliminating the aforementioned issue.

Formatting issues Meanwhile, users continue to report issues with page formatting for sites published with the new version.

MacFixIt reader John Barrs writes:

"I have some friends using my .Mac space to publish the pending arrival of their first child. With the latest update, some of the pages are formated incorrectly, however only in Safari. Internet Explorer on Windows and Internet Explorer for Mac as well as Netscape for the Mac render the pages properly."

Problems enlarging photos Some users are reporting problems enlarging images from thumbnails on sites published with iWeb 1.1.

"The new update refuses to enlarge photos when you click on them."

Some users have been able to resolve this issue by removing apostrophes from the names of published pages. Other users have had to resort to downgrading iWeb to version 1.0 as described below.

Reverting to iWeb 1.0 Removing the iWeb 1.1 update and going back to version 1.0 of iWeb requires deletion of the following files:

• /Library/Receipts/iWebApp.pkg
• /Library/Receipts/iWeb_101.pkg
• /Library/Receipts/iWeb_11.pkg /Applications/iWeb

then re-installing iWeb from its original iLife media.
