iWeb 1.0 (#2): Repeated crashes -- try removing Flip4Mac

CNET staff

Users continue to report persistent crashes from iWeb 1.0, particularly when attempting to use the media browser.

MacFixIt reader Luke writes:

"Both iWeb and Garageband crash on me extremely frequently as well. I have a Dual 2.5 G5 with 4.5 GB of RAM. I can't work for 20 minutes in iWeb without it crashing and giving me the 'reopen' dialog box.

In many cases, this issue can be resolved by uninstalling Flip4Mac -- a set of components designed to added Windows Media file compatibility to QuickTime.

Flip4Mac can be uninstalled by deleting the following files:

  • Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin
  • Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin
  • Macintosh HD/Library/QuickTime/Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
  • Macintosh HD/Library/QuickTime/Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
  • Macintosh HD/Library/PreferencePanes/WmvPlayer.prefPanel
  • Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts/Flip4Mac WMV Import Installer.pkg
  • Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts/Flip4Mac WMV Export Installer.pkg
