iTunes Festival app wins you tickets to see Paul Simon, Foo Fighters and more

Foo Fighters, Duran Duran and Paul Simon are among the first acts announced for this year's iTunes Festival. Apple's month-long musical extravaganza features a free gig every night throughout July, with iPhone and iPad apps to help you win tickets wherever you are.

Kicking things off on 1 July is the man with diamonds on the soles of his shoes, Paul Simon. He's followed by 62 bands in 31 shows, all at the Roundhouse in Kentish Town, London.

Sixteen of this year's turns have been revealed, with another 45 to go. New-romantic pouters Duran Duran and nu-metal shouters Linkin Park headline a night, as do rock gods Foo Fighters and Manic Street Preachers, and bleepy-bloopy knob-twiddlers Magnetic Man and Chase and Status. Adele chases pavements with former schoolfriend Jessie J, who'll no doubt be doing it like a dude, while White Lies and Glasvegas cheer everyone up with a few rays of sunshine.

Also headlining is the new outfit led by one Liam Gallagher, Beady Eye, striking out in a bold new direction from the anthemic ladrock of Oasis by playing anthemic ladrock with a piano.

If that's not enough there's a chance to rock out with your uke out, as comedienne and mayor of Camden Amy Lamé hands a ukelele to every member of the audience to learn a tune, during Ukelele for Dummies on 3 July.

To get tickets, tick the gigs you're interested in -- as many as you want -- and you'll be entered into the draw to win a pair. Although it's a competition, it's still more open than previous years, when you had to enter via Facebook. If you don't win, there'll be video and music recorded at the Roundhouse available to download from the iTunes Store.

Tickets are available at itunesfestival.com or through the iPhone or iPad app (iTunes links, natch). The apps include an opportunity to win a pass to every night of the festival, alongside a calendar and slideshows of photos from previous years. No, of course there's not an Android app.
