iTunes installation erased files/drive For some users. it appears the iTunes 7.7 installation has resulted in data loss. This has caused their computers to no longer boot.

While it's of no use in retrospect, you should you have a backup of your files and run the system maintenance routines in Disk Utility to encourage successful installation. For lost data, hopefully a Time Machine (or other) backup will allow for data recovery.

Installation results in empty library iTunes stores files by default in the "Music" folder in your home directory. For some users who have moved their libraries out of this folder (to another drive, for example), updating iTunes caused the library to appear empty.

As previously noted on MacFixIt, if the iTunes library is stored somewhere other than the ~/Music folder then you may have to reselect it using the iTunes preferences. Go to the preferences and in the "General" tab there should be the option to select the iTunes library location.

iTunes unexpectedly quits iTunes may crash and unexpectedly quit even with no iPod connected. The program seems to load fine and then will just quit out on the user.

Try running permissions fixes and/or delete the iTunes related preferences files in the ~/Library/Preferences folder. Then relaunch iTunes. Alternatively just keep launching iTunes and the problem may clear itself. This version of iTunes appears to have some problems with updating the old library, and it may take several tries before success.

Installation leads to "Mobile Device Support Script failed" error This problem appears to be happening for both Mac and Windows iTunes users, preventing them from installing the iTunes update.

Potential fix:Uninstall iTunes and download the standalone installer. In Windows use the Add/Remove programs to uninstall the software, and for the Mac drag the application to the trash, as well as remove the "com.apple.iTunes.*" plist files from the ~/Library/Preferences folder before reinstalling the software.

iTunes sharing features not working Some users have found that the Bonjour networking for sharing iTunes libraries doesn't seem to be working. This is most likely a Firewall issue, so to troubleshoot, try setting the firewall to "allow all incoming connections". If the networking works after that then you can try reconfiguring the other firewall settings to properly accept iTunes communications.

Non-roman characters get changed upon playing files Users have found that characters which use various non-standard symbols get changed when iTunes accesses the files to play them.

iTunes store problems Users may get the error -2096 upon accessing the store, have the store crash while loading, or have broken shopping carts that don't properly process their purchases. Apple is in the process of updating the iTunes store and changes are bound to cause a few holdups.
