iTunes 7.3.1 (#3): Problems syncing with iPhone

Some potential fixes for this problem.

CNET staff

Some users are reporting problems synchronizing with the iPhone after updating to iTunes 7.3.1 -- an issue for which we are seeking confirmation.

MacFixIt reader Charles Baugh writes:

"Following the iTunes 7.3.1 Update (which did reformat the iTunes Library), I am unable to sync with my iPhone. Until this time the iPhone and iTunes 7.3 sync worked perfectly. The failure message is: 'iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone "Secretary" because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone.'

"Console messages include: CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): plist parse failed; the data is not proper UTF-8. The file name for this data could be: Users/baugh/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/"

The fix for this issue may be resetting the sync history as listed in the following article on our sister site iPhone Atlas: "A better fix for Mac OS X iPhone syncing problems." or eliminating problematic contacts as described in the article "iPhone fails to sync all contacts; iTunes hangs on 'Syncing contacts'"
