iTunes 7.0.2 Special Report: Podcasts stored on iPods not displayed properly in iTunes

There exists an issue where podcasts do not properly display in iTunes when stored on some iPods. In other words, while podcasts will be properly stored and displayed on the iPod screen, they will not appear in the Library in iTunes 7.0.x.

This issue makes it difficult to selectively delete iPod-stored podcasts.

MacFixIt reader Gary writes:

"I'm mostly going along just fine with the new version but the issue of iTunes not displaying podcasts that were dragged into the general Music listings on a G3 iPod still persists. You can see these podcasts ON the iPod, you can see these podcasts ON iTunes 6.x.x, but you cannot see them on iTunes 7.0.x unless they are in a Playlist."

Tom Dager adds:

"I will load my podcasts onto my iPod Mini and they will show there. However as soon as I plug it back into iTunes, it changes the podcasts into a playlist.  This is getting to be really frustrating to say the least."

Another reader adds:

"I am experiencing the same issue with podcasts and the G3 iPod.  Can only see the podcast if it is in a playlist.  No way to delete the podcast from the iPod that I can find.  It can be deleted from the playlist, but is still on the iPod's drive and can not be found to be deleted."
