iTunes 7.0.2 (#8): Problems installing -- potential fix
Problems installing -- potential fix If you are experiencing an issue where iTunes 7.0.2 refuses to install on your startup drive or another volume, displaying an exclamation point (!) over the selected volume, there may be a problem with read/write capabilities or another aspect of the volume.
In these case, you can force the iTunes installer to skip the volume validity check it normally performs via the following process (as adapted from a post by Apple Discussions user Toonz):
- Mount the iTunes 7.0.2 disk image
- Copy the iTunes.mpkg file from the iTunes disk image to your Desktop or another location on a writable volume
- Control-click (right-click) on the iTunes.mpkg file and select Show Package Contents.
- Double-click the Contents folder
- Double-click the Resources folder
- Control-click (right-click) on iTunesX.pkg and choose Show Package Contents.
- Double-click the Contents folder
- Double-click the Resources folder
- Drag the file VolumeCheck to the trash
- Control-click (right-click) on iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg and choose Show Package Contents.
- Double-click the Contents folder
- Double-click the Resources folder
- Drag the file VolumeCheck to the trash
- Close all package contents windows, and double-click the iTunes.mpkg
[Note that iTunes may be denying installation on a particular volume because of potentially significant issues with your Mac OS X installation, and simply disabling the volume check will not resolve these issues. If you are concerned about problems manifesting down the road, you may want to consider an Archive and Install]
