iTunes 7.0.1 (#3): Finding media with a question mark (?) in their filenames, problems; more

Finding media with a question mark (?) in their filenames, problems iTunes 7.0.1 -- when adding music files to its Library -- changes question marks in filenames to dashes ("-"), meaning that you may not be able to find the files if they appear by their filename in iTunes.

iTunes 7.0.1 can properly interpret question marks in ID3 tags, so having a proper title entry there will result in display of the question mark correctly, and allow files to be found by typing a question mark in the search bar.

MacFixIt reader Manfred Zorn writes:

"I noticed that iTunes 7.0.1 cannot find music files containing '?'. In the filename, the '?' are replaced with '_' and thus the filename no longer matches the name in iTunes Library."

"Explicit" label inadvertently applied Some users have also reported an issue where some songs are incorrectly labeled as explicit after the update to iTunes 7.0.1.

One reader writes:

"Some of my songs are now labeled 'Explicit' which they weren't before iTunes 7.0.1 and really cannot be as they refer to electronic music (without words) or classical music or religious hymns. My guess is an overflow problem in the ID. Just before the Explicit tag in the XML file is the unique ID referring to the new album cover (wild guess!). Since the new file format is binary, an overflow writing the cover ID can easily set the Explicit flag (which is 'True' or missing)."

Inexplicably switches to US store Some users have reported an issue where iTunes 7.0.1 goes to the US store, even when it is designated for use in another country.

MacFixIt reader Clyde Cohen writes:

"I live in Toronto Canada and use the iTunes Store from here, the Canadian version. When I launch iTunes it since updating it seems to be reverting to the U.S. site store, which don't have access to anyway. The only way I realize this is when I want to purchase a song or download the free song of the week, and realize that I am not at the Canadian site. iTunes used to keep me signed in all the time in the past, but now it seems to sign me off and I have to sign in after switching back from the U.S. Store to the Canada Store. iTunes then advises me how many computers I have registered, though I didn't ask."
