Star rating bug fixed -- may require deletion of file A bug in version 6.0.2 of iTunes where users were unable to properly set a star rating boundary for smart playlists has been resolved iTunes 6.0.3.

However, you may need to delete the following files:

  • com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
  • com.apple.iTunes.plist
  • com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist

from ~/Library/Preferences, then quit and re-launch iTunes before the bug resolution takes effect.

Problems obtaining through Software Update Some users are reporting issues obtaining iTunes 6.0.3 through Software Update.

One reader writes:

"I have received an error message 'Unable To Expand'. I have to download it from the Apple software page and it is a simple install."

Disk Utility bug still exists A bug we covered extensively, where users are unable to properly run Disk Utility with iTunes present, receiving the error message: "Disk Utility lost connection with Disk Management Tool and cannot continue," is not resolved in iTunes 6.0.3.

One MacFixIt reader writes:

"How frustrating it is to still have the same problem with Disk Utility and iTunes 6.0.3. I'm using Panther 10.3.9 and had the same problem as others with the update iTunes 6.0.2 and Disk Utility. I downloaded last night the update 6.0.3 for iTunes hoping it would fix it. Turned the computer off, but when I turned it on again and wanted to verify the stability, I got the same advice telling me that Disk Utility had lost its connection with the Tool management."

For various effective workarounds for this issue, see our iTunes 6.0.2 special report.

Multiple base station streaming issue fixed A previously reported bug where volume control is disabled if you the user attempts to send audio to send more than one Airport Express base station is resolved in iTunes 6.0.3.

One reader writes:

"The issue with volume control and remote Airport Express connections has been fixed. When sending output to more than one device, the volume control now controls all output devices, rather than just the local computer."
