iTunes 6.0.2 special report: Freezes, other problems when synching with iPod

Some users have reported issues with freezing during iPod synchronization under iTunes 6.0.2.

Joe Cardella writes:

"Immediately after installing 6.0.2, my ipod repeatedly freezes while syncing to iTunes and displays the 'Exclamation Folder'. I've attempted numerous restores using ipod software update 2006-1-10, which gives me a normal looking iPod, until I try syncing again."

Other users are reporting problems with duplicate songs, or purportedly synchronized tracks not actually making it on to the iPod.

In some cases, these issues can be resolved via the following process:

  1. Create a new user (using the button in the Accounts pane of System Preferences), then login in as that user.
  2. Plug-in the iPod.
  3. When prompted break the Library connection with the old account (set the iPod to use the new Library). This will delete all songs from your iPod.
  4. Next, switch back to the old account and re-attempt synchronization, again switching the Library binding.
