iTunes 3: Special Report; Encoding rates

CNET staff

Special report We have posted a special report on iTunes 3, covering new features of the application, currently exposed bugs and their newly discovered workarounds. The report is available exclusively to MacFixIt Pro subscribers.

Encoding rates Richard Bottiglieri notes that when encoding tracks from CD, users must keep the "Track Number" tags intact (at least during the import session), or iTunes will automatically encode songs at the highest bit-rate setting despite preference settings.

"I've always removed this tag, as I prefer to have the songs list alphabetically and by album. The workaround is simple - encode with the track information in the ID3 tag, and remove it once the songs have been encoded as MP3 files."
