iSync 2.0: Resolving device recognition issues

CNET staff

We've covered a number of cases where iSync 2.0 (included with Mac OS X 10.4.x) is unable to recognize certain devices that could be recognized under previous versions.

Now MacFixIt reader Jerry Wolford reports that deleting the SyncServices folder, which is located in the ~/Library/Application Support directory, then quitting and re-launching iSync 2.0 (which will force creation of a new SyncServices folder) can resolve recognition issues with some devices.

Jerry writes:

"I had a Motorola v180 cell phone that worked via iSync under Panther, but with TIger iSync could not see the phone when Adding a device. I tried another user on the same system and all was OK. I started digging into my user folder, deleting preference files etc. to no avail. I finally saw the SyncServices file in the User (~) library. I trashed that and all is well."
